  • The iliotibial band (6) will be seen at its insertion onto Gerdy’s tubercle (1).
  • The iliotibial band progresses proximally over the lateral femoral epicondyle (2).
  • A small amount of fluid is seen in the lateral joint recess (3) and in the iliotibial bursa (4).
  • At the edge of the lateral joint space, a portion of the lateral meniscus (5) can be seen.
