Transducer Marker Orientation

Transducer Marker Orientation

The transducer marker is oriented relative to the screen and determines what direction the transducer is placed on the patient.

Radiology convention:

  • The top of the screen is closest to the face of the transducer, and the bottom of the screen shows structures farther away from the face of the transducer.
  • The marker is on the left side of the screen and corresponds to the side of the probe marked with an indicator, (this could be a notch or a groove). Typically in transverse, the indicator is placed toward the patient’s right. In sagittal/longitudinal, the indicator on the transducer is oriented toward the patient’s head.

Cardiology convention:

  • The top of the screen is closer to the face of the transducer, and the bottom of the screen shows structures farther away from the face of the transducer.
  • The marker is on the right side of the screen corresponds to the side of the probe marked with an indicator, (this could be a notch or a groove). The indicator of the transducer may face right or left depending on user preference.
