  • You may need a longer (1.88 inch) 18 GA needle.
  • Needle length is dependent on the depth of the vein and approach.
  • This image shows a shallow approach. Usually, the needle is inserted at a 45 degree angle for an Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Intravenous (USGPIV) insertion.
