Dr. Russ Horowitz is the Director, Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Assistant Professor, Pediatrics, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. This webinar will allow the learner to use point-of-care ultrasound to search for and diagnosis three (3) abdominal pathologies common in pediatrics: intussusception, appendicitis, and pyloric stenosis. The scanning techniques along with tips and pitfalls will be discussed for each condition. At the conclusion of the webinar, the learner will be able to distinguish between normal bowel and these conditions. Webinar goals and objectives: 1. Identify normal pediatric bowel including bowel wall, normal fluid and air patterns and peristalsis. 2. Describe the scanning pattern to find ileocolic intussusception and its characteristic target sign. 3. Describe the scanning pattern to localize the normal and abnormal appendix. Identify the most common locations for the appendix and the defining criteria for appendicitis. 4. Identify the normal and abnormal pylorus. 5. Describe the defining criteria of pyloric stenosis.
