Procedural Guidance with Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine (40:23)

Dr. Arun Nagdev will provide a comprehensive overview of how ultrasound guidance may be implemented into emergency medicine to increase procedural success and reduce error. From common procedures such as vascular access to those performed less frequently, ultrasound-guidance allows the clinician the ability to navigate anatomical variance to ensure efficient and optimal patient care.

Webinar Goals and Objectives:

  1. Obtain a clear method for ultrasound-guided central venous cannulation that is based on patient anatomy and operator experience. The attendee will learn various access sites and how to select the ideal option for each situation.
  2. Learn how to implement point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the evaluation of a suspected septic joint. Ultrasound offers a clear visualization of the joint space and allows the clinician a simplified method to obtain fluid for analysis.
  3. Understand a clear and simplified technique to perform emergency ultrasound-guided pericardiocentesis in the patient with clinical and echocardiographic signs of cardiac tamponade. An uncommon procedure, it must be in the armamentarium of the practicing emergency physician.
